Six hurt as van hits train
Tragedy: The damaged milk van that rammed into a passenger train at an unmanned level crossing between Palacode and Marandahalli in Dharmapuri on Monday.
DHARMAPURI: Six persons sustained minor injuries when a milk van crashed into a passenger train in an unmanned level crossing in Dharmapuri district on Monday morning.
According to sources, the milk van on its way to Ammanimallapuram hit the Salem-Yashwanthpur passenger train near Vattaganapatti village between Palacode and Marandahalli around 7.45 p.m. The passengers who were sitting on the steps of the bogies sustained minor injuries on their knees and legs. While three persons took treatment as outpatients at the Primary Health Centre,Royakottai, details of other three was not available. Dr. P. Arunagiriraj, Chief Medical Officer f the hospital told The Hindu that the injured Annamalai, Karthick and Bharathi were given first aid and sent home. Top railway authorities rushed to the spot. Driver and owner of the milk van are at large. Railway Protection Force, Dharmapuri has registered a case and investigations are on.
